Wild Roots
In conversation with Hope Dean, owner of houseplant haven Wild Roots in Poole.
Can you give us an introduction to Wild Roots?
Wild Roots was born out of lockdown. After losing my job, I turned to my gardening roots and opened a houseplant shop, following in the footsteps of my family. Now, two years later and as part of the Poole Regeneration project at Kingland Crescent, I haven't looked back since.
Wild Roots is a botanical paradise, overflowing with unique plants, pots, and homeware. If you're looking to reconnect with nature, this is the place to be.
How important are plants to our wellbeing?
Plants and nature have gained immense popularity in enhancing our everyday wellbeing since the launch of Wild Roots 2 years ago. From gracing our homes, workplaces, and classrooms, the benefits of having plants around are endless. One of the key advantages of these lush greens is their ability to purify the air and eliminate toxins. Peace Lilies and Snake plants are just a few examples of the most effective air-purifying species. Nurturing a plant and witnessing its growth journey is a fulfilling experience, and even with limited space, there's always room for another plant. Not only do they add aesthetic appeal, but you'll unconsciously reap the many benefits they offer.
What led to your decision to base your shop in Poole?
Poole is a stunning location, surrounded by breathtaking natural beauty from its beaches to forests. However, as a local, I felt that we needed some appealing independent shops to explore. I am thrilled to say that the response from our community has been overwhelmingly positive.
What’s next for Wild Roots?
To continue spreading the houseplant love within our community and welcoming new customers. We have an exciting line-up of workshops planned for the coming year, all hosted at our shop in Poole.
