If you're a beer fanatic or in any way inclined to blow the top off a few, 'The Way Outback' micro brewery should be on the top of your list. Based in the heart of Southbourne, the community based brewery and taproom produces some of the finest craft beer on the South Coast.

The Way Outback prides itself on its free thinking independent attitude. Grown from the ground up, the brewery started out in the back garden of founder Richard Brown's property (hence the name 'way outback'). Initially supplying various pubs, bars and bottle shops, it was decided that the brewery needed a venue to supply their product directly to their customers. Working by day and building by night, The Way Outback brewery and taproom made Seabourne Road their home.

For your first visit to the taproom, the recommended beer of choice is 'Hey You Guys', a New England Pale Ale characterised by its tropical and juicy flavours- cleaned off by a hint of bitterness. They also have a range of flights available if the choice becomes all too difficult to make.

Although The Way Outback is best known for it's New England Pale Ale's, the brewery is soon looking to branch out into lagers and pilsners- so watch this space!

As for sustainability, the majority of beers available are vegan. In addition, any of the left over malts are taken to a local farm to be used as feed, so there is never any waste products. It is also important to note that none of the beers contain lactose sugar, which is a non-fermentable sugar added to many craft beers as a sweetening agent. Meaning more beer, less hangovers!

The future for The Way Outback is looking promising, having expanded across the road to now include an event space and restaurant with a wood fired pizza oven, BBQ and other mouth watering food options. Just in time for summer!

We highly recommend popping into The Way Outback and supporting your local independent brewery. However, if visiting is out of the question, most beers are available in cans, so pop onto their website and order yourself a few, you won't regret it.
