Riptide Espresso
Riptide Espresso is a speciality coffee shop in the heart of Old Town Poole, serving up wicked brews and sick tunes. We spoke to founders Sam Sheldon and Aaron Blandford to find out more about this local hotspot.
Hi Sam and Aaron! Why did you choose Poole to be the home for your business?
We’ve always lived in the area, I (Sam) have always lived in Poole and loved it. Especially the Old Town which has now been pedestrianised for the Summer giving it such a good vibe with all the outdoor seating! When the location became available, we had to jump on it!
What is the food offering at Riptide Espresso?
We do toasties, bagels and open toasts. We try to keep all our ingredients as local as possible and also have a lot of good vegan and veggie options like vegan pulled pork toasties, teriyaki tofu bagels and even a vegan duck bagel!
The Bacon Avocado or the Halloumi Chilli Jam bagels are definitely the most popular. We use Chilli Jam from local company Cherry Tree which is super tasty! We also serve incredible brownies by local company SoCo Brownie Studio.
We try to keep our suppliers and ingredients as local as possible. Our main supplier Carve Coffee Roasters supplies all our coffee beans in reusable tubs. Our takeaway packaging is bio-recyclable too.
We are completely in love with your branding. Who is the mastermind behind it?
We work with the amazing Me & You Studio who design all of our logos, merchandise and posters you see on our Instagram- it’s such a big part of us as a shop! You can check them out on Instagram @meandyoustudio.
What is the future of Riptide Espresso?
We have lots of exciting things planned for the Summer. We have started hosting music events which we’re hoping to turn into a monthly series featuring local DJ’s and artists. Another thing which we haven’t actually announced yet is that we have a mobile coffee van which will be serving from at a few local events in the Summer, so Riptide will be on the road!
