Shore Soothe Massage
In conversation with Jax Wallace, co-founder of Shore Soothe in Bournemouth.
Please can you give us a short introduction to Shore Soothe?
At Shore Soothe, we're a massage and reflexology business that's deeply inspired by our love of wellbeing and nature. My name is Jax, and I'm the massage therapist, while Anna is our talented reflexologist. Together, we envisioned our business with the hope of making a positive impact on people's day-to-day lives through massage and reflexology.
What sets us apart are the thoughtful touches that we've incorporated into our business. From the comfortable and homely environment surrounded by foraged bouquets and original art to the selection of playlists that you can choose from based on your mood, we've created a space that's designed to put you at ease. We also offer handpicked flower jars by Anna, who's a floral designer, as unique and free gifts to every client after their treatment. Our completely natural and vegan products and selection of herbal tea jars made by our local herbalist are additional ways that we show our commitment to our clients' well-being.
At Shore Soothe, we take great joy in going the extra mile for our clients. One of the things that we're especially proud of is our 'Massage Of The Month' initiative. This program allows our clients to nominate anyone they know who could benefit from the healing benefits of massage or reflexology. We select one nominee every month, who gets to enjoy a free hour of treatment or can apply the value of their treatment towards a different service. We've seen firsthand the positive impact that this program has had on people who've never considered booking a massage for themselves. Reading the nomination forms and hearing about all the amazing people in our community is one of the highlights of our job.
What led you to choose Boscombe as the location for your business?
Our decision to set up our massage and reflexology business in Boscombe was influenced by our friend, Nikki Andrews, who is the owner of Collective. We used to live in a flat above her Bournemouth location, and during one of our morning coffee runs to Fika, I mentioned to her that we wanted to start our business. That conversation was the starting point for our journey. Nikki provided us with a lot of support, advice, and even allowed us to use her spaces before we moved to our current location, which is behind Crema Coffee, a specialty coffee shop - a perfect fit for us as coffee enthusiasts. If you're looking to start or grow your therapy or beauty business across the South, I would definitely recommend getting in touch with Nikki.
As for why we love Boscombe, it's because there's something for everyone, and the great businesses here are creating a culture of individuality and creativity at a time when it's needed the most. We're thrilled to be part of this journey, and we hope to continue contributing to the local community.
For first-timers, what treatment would you recommend?
When it comes to massage, the therapist is the key. A good therapist will take the time to understand where you are and what you want from the treatment, and any massage can be a great experience as a result. That being said, most first-timers opt for the 'Natural Flow,' our one-hour massage. However, many people find themselves wanting more after an hour, so why not be bold and try something like the 'Deep Waters' (1 hour 30 minutes) or even the 'Shore Soothe' (1 hour
45 minutes)?
If you're interested in reflexology, I highly recommend Anna's treatment. Her therapeutic, relaxing approach is ideal for addressing pain and ailments throughout the whole body by applying pressure to the feet. Anna's expertise in anatomy and the mind is reflected in her exclusive approach, and I'm confident that you'll have a wonderful experience.
