From London School of Barbering to Nelson Social's success, in conversation with founder Ryan Green.
Hi Ryan! Can you give us an introduction to Nelson Social?
Hi there! Well really it’s just my little shop where I cut hair, but I like to think it’s a barbershop for the people. Community is really important to me, and I strive to play a part in the local community while also building a positive atmosphere within the shop.
We’d love to know your story. Can you give us a bit of background on your career and some of the milestones so far?
Yeah so I trained at the prestigious London School of Barbering and then decided to further refine my skills in London at Porters Barbers. After gaining valuable experience there, I moved back and secured a job in Ringwood. I managed to build a loyal clientele in that barbershop, many of whom I still serve today!
Additionally, I've had the opportunity to work at Harrison's Barbershop in Marbella during the summers, which is known for its exceptionally high standards. I've definitely travelled around and gained diverse experiences. After all of that, I felt it was time to open my own barbers and establish my own brand.
What led to your decision to base your barbers in Pokesdown?
I love it here! I see so much potential in this place. It gives me London and city vibes. It's just the beginning for this spot, but with the right businesses popping up, I believe we can achieve great things. Also, it’s just so real here, Pokesdown is cool as f**k! The people make it!
What’s next for Nelson Social?
Probably getting another barber in, I’m super busy! The workings of the barbershop will always be my priority, but outside of that there’s a million and one things I want to do! Hopefully making a positive change in the community, but also trying to push the brand. The brand is more of a fun thing for me to get creative with. Like I said the high standard of service I provide within the barbershop will be something I will always push, and I pride myself on that.
