Good beer for good people, that is the ethos that drives Boscombe Brewing Company, an independent brewery serving American style craft beer from a back garden in Boscombe. Founded in 2020 by head brewer Jarrod, BBCo is a testament to sustainable and progressive brewing. Originally from Massachusetts, Jarrod's extensive knowledge of high quality beer has quickly gained him local recognition. From Boston to Boscombe, we can't recommend his beer enough! We catch up with Jarrod to find out more.

Hi Jarrod! What is your approach to Boscombe Brewing Company?
We do what we love! We make craft beer using top quality grains, yeast and hops. No additives or preservatives, making beer the traditional way for the 21st century customer. Our beers are vegan and we strive to keep our carbon footprint low by recycling our grain and investing in sustainable packaging.

What drinking experience can we expect from Boscombe Brewing Company?
I try not to make one style of beer, I like all beer. I make Stouts, Porters, Belgium beers, American Pale Ales, New England Pale Ales and Saison's, a real cornucopia of booze. I want to sell beer that people seek out rather than just make beers that sell. I'd like to bring the American Craft Beer approach to England, which is starting to happen now.

Is there a big difference between the American and English approaches to making beer?
I grew up in a little town called Tewksbury, Massachusetts and 20 minutes down the road from there you had a town called Portland, Maine. Portland is about the size of Boscombe town centre but they have over 35 breweries, so this gives you a sense of the scale of brewing in America. With this concentration of brewers you get an incredible depth that comes from time and experimentation. I think that this has yet to be fully appreciated in England, but that's changing and we're here to help build that culture.

What would you recommend off the menu?
It would have to be 'Hazed and Confused' for first timers. It's quite light, not too hoppy, juicy with a good effervescence, as well as being quite a smooth beer. But it still has a good punch to it that I think a lot of ales lack.

What is the future of Boscombe Brewing Co?
We're currently working on a collaboration with M's Bakery, where we're collecting the left over bread and brewing a beer from it called 'Real Stale'.

Also, I'd love to create a tap room in Boscombe so people can taste the full range of brews and showcase our brewing process.
