Hi Sam! Can you give us an introduction to No Meat Disco?

Hello beautiful people of the south coast. My name is Sam and NoMeatDisco was born from my huge love of music and how it correlates with food. I always find myself needing music to inspire the direction of where I want a dish I'm creating to go. I feel like music and food work in perfect harmony. Oh and all the recipes I create just happen to be delicious plant based creations.

Got any tips for folks who want to give a plant-based diet a shot?

In all honesty, 'vegan' and 'plant based' are just words. I try to think of a plant based diet as just food that we all eat everyday that's good for the planet, our health and of course animals. But my top tip is to not be scared of the word 'vegan'. You can cook anything you usually have and make a plant-based version of it. I think you just have to take it slowly, look for inspiration on recipes, ask any people that adopt a plant based diet for some advice and most importantly play around with different ingredients. Have fun in the kitchen, as plant based food can be so creative.

What are your favourite vegan/ vegetarian food spots in BCP?

My absolute number one was OffBeet in the New Forest, but unfortunately they’ve been forced to close down. The head chef Pete creates mind blowing food and he does things with food that I’ve never seen before, creating plant based masterpieces. He has a place in Southsea, Portsmouth, which I went to last week and it’s incredible. I’m also in love with The Tinkers Granddaughter in Lymington, plant based sandwiches, cakes and a forever changing deli with some of the most amazing independent products, I highly recommend. I also love Miiko Everyday Nourishment, Twelve Eatery, Dane & Port and Mighty Wieners who have just closed but are doing pop ups around BCP. Oh and a must purely for the vibes is Ounce... Banging smoothie bowls and THE BEST COFFEE ;-)

What next for No Meat Disco?

This year I’m looking to do a lot more events, so keep your eyes peeled for those as I will hopefully be doing a regular monthly pop up locally. I can’t wait to cook you some beautiful food! I’m also in the process of writing a cookbook which will be out next year (fingers crossed). Also some merch will be on the cards.
