Fashion designer Martha Hayes launched her brand Made by Martha while studying at Arts University Bournemouth. During her time at university, Martha started surfing and it became apparent at the severe lack of diversity in the local lineups. This gave Martha a strong desire to create products that make women want to get in the sea and give surfing a go. Martha believes in living freely and is currently in Newquay, where she is in the heart of British surfing. This has given Martha a first-hand experience of what women need when it comes to surfing.

When Martha designs her pieces, she has a strong focus on function and making sure her swimwear handles whatever the ocean throws at her. Designing for cold water and bad weather is paramount. Martha is heavily influenced by the women that have shaped today’s surf world so she takes style references from retro swim pieces and combines them with cuts that feel comfortable under wetsuits.
